1. Pixie Doughnuts (in the Vons plaza down Baseline Rd)
   A dozen doughnut holes for one dollar? Seriously? Walking into Pixie Doughnuts is a trip into another era. People stop by for a chocolate with chocolate sprinkles, a glazed twist or a pink cardboard box of assorted cake doughnuts, all served up with a smile at rock-bottom prices. I bought three dozen donut holes (cake, cinnamon-sugar, and glazed) for my first period class this morning for less than the cost of a single Jamba Juice smoothie.


2. Bangkok Blue (by the Pet Depot at Fruit and Foothill)
   Why does the best Pad Thai so often reside next to an acre of parking lot? Bangkok Blue is the classic strip mall paradox – an incredible restaurant masquerading as a random hole-in-the-wall. Go and eat curry to your heart’s delight.


3. 21 Choices (at Mountain and Foothill)
   If you've been at Webb for a while, you probably already know 21 Choices. But if you only moved to the lovely land of Claremont recently, you might not yet have experienced the bliss of a sickly-sweet circus animal cookie chopped into vanilla froyo alongside chunks of cookie dough, or the crisp headache-inducing fruit flavors like “Snappy Blue Berries” or “Caramelized Banana.” The quest for the perfect combination of candy, fruit and yoghurt will never end…

1.Haiti Earthquake

It was less than two weeks since New Year’s Eve and shocking news struck the world. On January 12, 2010 a catastrophic earthquake descended on the capital of Haiti Port-au-Prince. Within hours, over a million people became homeless. Buildings across much of the city and its suburbs were reduced to rubble. More than 230,000 people died, and hundreds of thousands of others were injured. The damages were devastating and extreme in what is one of the third world countries.

2. Wiki Leaks

The organization that finds and reveals secret government data crossed the line in July, 2010. They released 77,000 U.S. military files chronicling the war effort in Afghanistan and a larger tranche of 400,000 war logs from Iraq in October. The incident has shaken the technology world and raised the big question about the safety of secrecy in the digitized 21^st century.

3. Oil spill in Gulf of Mexico

On April 20, an explosion rocked the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, killing eleven workers onboard and leaving the operation crippled. The deaths were a tragedy on their own, but when the rig began to sink on April 22, it opened the door to a new danger: an oil spill that could blanket the entire Gulf Coast.

On April 24, the Coast Guard reported that more than 40,000 gal. a day of crude oil was leaking into Gulf waters just 50 miles south of the coast of Louisiana. Within days, the spill produced an oil sheen more than 1,800 sq. mi. large, threatening the sensitive Gulf coastline, home to seabirds and marine mammals along with prime fishing and tourist spots.

4. Chilean Miners

On Aug. 5, 33 miners in the San Jose, Chile copper mine in the Atacama desert found themselves trapped in a collapsed shaft 2,300 ft. (700 m) under the earth. Soon international audience learned about rescue-capsules. The miners' dramatic release, broadcast live, provided mesmerizing, views as each of the brave men emerged from the bowels of the earth to the embraces of teary-eyed family members

5. Pakistan Floods

The monsoon rains in July triggered almost unprecedented flooding that irrigated the Indus River basin — at one point, almost a fifth of the country was underwater. Around 2,000 people died and the damage to the country was estimated to be over $43 billion.

6. South Africa World Cup

Before the World Cup 2010, the largest soccer tournament in the world, international media questioned the ability of an African nation to host such an important event. There were myriad of concerns. Are they going to be able to finish on time? Is it going to be good enough?During the four weeks of the 2010 summer, South Africa provided one of the most successful World Cups in the recent history.

7. Mexico’s Drug War

Mexico's struggle with its powerful drug cartels took a grisly turn in 2010. Troubled border cities were subsumed in violence as the country's drug kingpins warred over turf. There have also been steady drumbeats of horrifying reports of kidnappings, mass graves and nocturnal executions. More than 3,000 people have been killed this year alone.

8. Thailand Red Shirts

For much of April and May, thousands of anti-government protesters occupied a central commercial district in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Named the Red Shirts, for the color of their political movement (their rivals are Yellow Shirts), the activists sought to bring down a government they saw as elitist and undemocratic. Commentators saw the protests as emblematic of larger fissures in Thai society — between the big city and the countryside, the rich and the poor, royalists and populists. Red Shirt protesters spilled hundreds of liters of their own blood in a stomach-turning act of agitprop. The accident provides a timely reminder of how dangerous offshore energy exploration can be.

9.Russian spy

Redheaded Russian spies are such a cliché that even James Bond movies eschew them. Anna Chapman was arrested in June, as part of a spy ring in New York City. She was deported to Russia, where, just like in a intense novel, she got a medal and a modeling gig.
10. U.S. and China Tensions

In the past years those two, the tension between the two countries has been constantly rising.  But 2010 saw a dramatic hardening of potential battle lines. Beijing has been steadily building up its naval power, particularly its submarine fleet; in a way that some hawkish U.S. analysts believe is a direct challenge to American supremacy in the Pacific.

This free app allows Webbies to access their firstclass wherever they want through Wi fi or their 3g plan. With this app, one can also chat, send messages and read recent posts in firstclass.

3.My wireless
My wireless allows people to check their bills for their phone and shows how much data usage is left to use. It is also very easy to use; all you have to do is just put in your phone information.

4.Battery Magic
Sometimes, the battery bar on the top right corner of the screen to tell you how much battery is left is not enough. Through this free app, one can check how much battery is left for video, music, games and for many other things as well.

5.NY times
This app provides with the latest articles in the New York Times and keeps you updated about what is going on around the world right now.

This app is definitely useful for Webbies during English class. One can look up any words just like in dictionary.com. No more need for those thick and heavy books!

Here are some great books to curl up with this winter break!

1. The Help/ Kathryn Stockett: This is a very heart-warming book; it has nothing related to Christmas, but it is definitely an enjoyable book to read. It is about a few women in Jackson, Mississippi, publishing the truth about how African-American maids are treated. Not a super adventurous book, but it will definitely be a valuable reading.

2. The Witch of Portobello/ Paulo Coelho: If you want a challenging and thoughtful book for Christmas, you might want to read this over your break. Paulo Coelho’s novels always carry a message of life. So does this one. This book is about the life of Athena told in different point of views. The style and structure of the book is very interesting

3. The Deep End of the Ocean/ Jacquelyn Mitchard: If you want a sad and deep reading for your holiday season, you should pick out this book. This is a story of a family who lost their 3 years old son and finds him after 9 years. There is no longer the Ben the Cappadora family was looking for. How will the family overcome this sorrow?

4. Eat Pray Love/Elizabeth Gilbert: This book has been recently made into a movie and has been extremely popular. Gilbert’s journey to find her true-self is definitely persuasive and entertaining. Why don’t you travel to Italy, India and Indonesia during Christmas time?

5. The Photographer/ Emmanuel Guilbert: A graphic novel that shares the journey of a photographer traveling with the Doctors without Border. Traveling through Afghanistan, and recording their humanitarian process, the readers can get a new perspective on Afghanistan. A sad but also heartwarming graphic novel!

6. My Sister’s Keeper/ Jodi Picoult: Another heartwarming family story written by the star author Jodi Picoult. Also made into a movie, this book is about Anna and Kate. Anna, who constantly needs to donate whatever sick Kate needs, decides to sue her parents. The strong story line and the warm lesson of the story is an appropriate book for Christmas

7. The Christmas Carol/ Charles Dickens: A very classic Christmas story loved through centuries. Some might also have prejudice against this book, but this Christmas, bring this book back home and join the journey of Mr. Scrooge and learn the lesson of Christmas!

8. The Time Traveler’s Wife/ Audrey Niffenegger: This is not an ordinary love story. It is about a woman who falls in love with a man who is a time traveler. Each scene described by the author is extremely delicate and beautiful. Especially for those of you who watched the movie, the original text is more beautiful and interesting. A good length novel to read over your break!

9. Little Women/ Louisa May Alcott: Most of you probably haven’t read this book after elementary school. It’s time to read it again! A great book that perfectly fits the Christmas season; it is a story of four sisters and the warmth of the family. Some might underestimate this book as children’s reading, but it is an amazing piece of work just perfect for Christmas

10. Harry Potter Series/ J.K. Rowling: Christmas is a great time to take out your Harry Potter series and read them again! It is fun and easy reading and also you might want to read the book after or before watching the newly released Harry Potter. One could possibly finish the whole series within the two weeks

Top 10 movies of 2010

1. Inception
Inception has been in theaters for a month and a half at least and ever since it came out it was a hit. The film never drags during its lengthy run time and it is full with action. Even though the ending is a bit complicated, the acting job and everything else deserves the first place.

2. Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 1
When I went to see the 1 part of Harry potter and Deathly Hallows I expected a typical Harry Potter movie with a lot of magic, spells and wound movement involve, but it turned out to be a complete story with love, friendship, and a lot of real emotions.

3. Robin Hood
It seeks to retell a well-worn tale, to put old wine in a shiny new bottle. What is missing from this version of Robin Hood is the fun that usually goes with things like robbing the rich and giving the loot to the poor.

4. Toy Story 3
It's funny, warm, clever, exciting and touching, a story of friendship and imagination and a last blast of childhood joy... These toys may be old, but there's still plenty of mileage left in them. Even the hardest of hearts will have melted by the time the lights come back up.

5. How to Train Your Dragon
A very touching story about a kid, who didn’t want to live his father’s life, and his unusual pet/friend. A story about finding your life path and never turning away from it, no matter how hard it might be. Plus training dragons never looked more fun. Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end.

6. The Karate Kid
Enjoyable, if slightly overlong remake that won't trample anyone's fond memories of the original film, thanks to a strong script, impressive direction and superb performances from Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

7. Shrek Forever After
It's sweet, mildly funny, and a pleasant enough farewell from these once beloved characters.
If we all loved the first film, enjoyed the second and were disappointed by the third, this fourth and final entry ends the Shrek series on a satisfying high note.

8. Kick Ass
Finally, a comic-book superhero movie for people who are sick to death of comic-book superhero movies. This film delivers on that fantasy with a world where bad guys are real and superheroes are geeky high school comic-book fans.

9. Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Eclipse reinvigorates the Twilight saga, giving the fans what they want as well as being good enough to keep casual viewers interested. The franchise has finally produced a movie that all will be able to enjoy -- even hard-done-by boyfriends who've been dragged kicking and screaming to see it.

10.Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton
Alice in Wonderland is normally not usually my cup of tea, but I’m glad I joined the party this time. The look of the film is electric with amazing creatures and incredibly varied landscapes from lush to bleak.

However the best posts are the Industry interviews, which allow readers to learn more about the working of snowboarding than they ever could alone.
3. Totally FK’N Awesome http://the-tackledbox.blogspot.com/ - The personal blog of Johan Malkoski, (co-creator of Capita snowboards) Totally FK’N Awesome is full of his signature humor. The trip updates are thoughtful, but the funniest posts are those regarding his children.

4. The Shred Remains http://www.romesnowboards.com/theshredremains/ - The blog of Rome Snowboards, The Shred Remains does a great job of staying subjective. The videos and iPhone interviews are the best parts of the site.

5. Tahoe Dangerzone http://tahoedangerzone.com/ - A video blog, Tahoe Dangerzone has redefined what it means to be a filming snowboarder. Instead of creating one large, highly edited video per season, the guys at Tahoe Dangerzone create episodes throughout the season, which last year totaled 25.

6. Technine http://blog.technine.com/ - Technine Snowboards may be known for their tough image, but their blog’s specialty are the personal stories. The obligatory team announcements are made, but the best posts are the lifestyle ones.

7. Right Brain Left Brain http://www.thinkthank.com/RightBrainLeftBrain.html - The blog of Think Thank productions, Right Brain Left Brain is named after their newest film. The blog has extra edits and previews for the movie, but it also has great coverage of local events.

8. The Angry Snowboarder http://www.angrysnowboarder.com/ - The Angry Snowboarder has the best snowboard reviews out of every blog. He has no problem declaring products terrible, and does so in a humorous manner for the reader. The highly opinionated editorials are the highlight of the site, and feature great arguments on current issues in snowboarding.

9. South of the North http://southofthenorth.blogspot.com/ - South of the North is the best blog for industry products. It is full of previews and reviews of new gear for snowboarding.

10. Transworld Snowboarding http://snowboarding.transworld.net/- While it may not be a true blog, the website for Transworld Snowboarding Magazine does have the best world-wide coverage of snowboarding events. It may not provide the best insights, but it does the best job of getting news.
